Fleetguard Employees Volunteer to Clean-up After Recent Tornado

13 SEP 05 -- Last month, disaster taking the form of a fierce tornado struck in Stoughton, Wis. With winds over 200 miles per hour, the storm destroyed nearly 100 houses and damaged over 300 in the area. One Fleetguard employee lost his home, while three others had major damage. Out of this tragedy, a spirit of concern, generosity and support emerged throughout the Fleetguard campus in Stoughton, as well as other Cummins Inc. facilities across the country.

On the morning following the tornado, Fleetguard Community Involvement Team (CIT) members were immediately flooded with offers to help. Employees were willing to support their comrades in any way possible. Many employees spent the weekend volunteering their time to cleaning up the pathway of the storm and felt compelled to offer even more.

As a result, the CIT scheduled work crews for morning and afternoon sessions during two days in the following week. Crews combed farm fields for leftover debris, cut fallen trees, and hauled piles of brush at the properties of fellow employees that were affected by the storm. In total, over 100 employees offered their time to help in the clean-up.

In addition to the manual clean-up labor, Fleetguard employees in Stoughton donated food and paper products to the community clean-up crews. A Charity of the Month event including a book sale, meal and poker tournament is planned for this month, with proceeds benefiting disaster relief in Stoughton.

The outpouring of support from the broader Cummins family gave an uplifting feeling to many Fleetguard employees located in Stoughton. The messages of concern and offers to help left a great impact in the aftermath of this tragedy. Many facilities have offered to raise money for the clean-up effort. The need for support will be ongoing as the clean-up and rebuilding effort will continue for the next two years. If your CIT would like to contribute, inquiries can be directed towards Sarah Horton, Stoughton CIT Leader.

The Stoughton community will be forever changed as a result of the devastating tornado, but in the wake of the storm, we have all been reminded that the generosity and teamwork among employees has truly made Cummins a "Great Place to Work."
