--
The Fleetguard Inc. facility located in Cookeville, TN recently launched a community service initiative in conjunction with Fleetguard's parent company, Cummins Inc. The program, called "Every Employee - Every Community," was created in recognition of Cummins' #1 ranking as best corporate citizen by Business Ethics magazine.
The initiative offers employees the option to participate in a half day of company time to work on a community service project. With the help of the Cookeville Community Involvement Team (CIT), volunteer employees from each functional area worked on projects chosen for their maximum impact on the community. In addition to the donation of work hours, some funding from the company was also provided for enabling resources (i.e., paint, tools, transportation, etc.).
Cookeville employees did work during May, June and July for a variety of organizations, including Habitat for Humanity, Serenity House, Pacesetters, Mediation Service, Cookeville Children's Theatre, Genesis House, White County Children's Health Fair, Cane Creek Park, Center Hill Lake, Burgess Falls State Park, The Clean Commission, Avery Trace/YMCA Adventure Program, Putnam County School Transition, and the local Head Start Program.
162 employees participated in 648 hours of community service to meet the needs of 16 different organizations and agencies. "That is the equivalent of one person dedicated to community work for more than 4 months. We had an exceptional response from our employees in the amount of work that was done to make our community a better place," said Frank Westbrook, Fleetguard Plant Manager. "As part of Cummins' core value to 'Serve and improve the communities in which we live', we encourage our employees to become involved in the community," Westbrook said. "Community involvement is very important to our company. We strive to develop and strengthen relationships with community organizations that make a positive impact on our community."
Fleetguard has a longstanding tradition of community involvement within each of the company's worldwide facilities. The CIT in each location works with local communities to provide financial and volunteer support for civic and educational projects that will most benefit the community. Site Managers and CITs identify community partners and service opportunities and structure each project to engage employees in people-to-people activities. CITs identify agencies that best meet the needs of the project, whether non-profit or community based organizations or municipal government agencies. Every project selected is in concert with Cummins core values and meets standards of ethics, conduct, treatment of others and diversity.
