--
Fleetguard's Emission Solutions business is excited to announce a new order placed by the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) for 175 new diesel particulate filters, with options to purchase an additional 175 buses packaged with the Cummins ISL '02 engine at a later date. This sale is particularly important since it is the first "Neo-fit" sale for Fleetguard Emission Solutions. Neo-fit is a new path to market for catalysts for Fleetguard Emission Solutions and is important to the business because it allows Cummins to compete for bids with a low particulate, low NOx product. As emission standards tighten -- and transit properties are forced to tighten up their emissions, this provides another more cost-effective method for them to do so.
The key aspect in winning this order is the teamwork between Fleetguard Emission Solutions (FES), the Cummins EBU, and Cummins Northeast, Inc. This cross-functional team includes Dave Hanson, Pat Lyons, Marty Chiaramonte and Rob Ferguson from FES, John Coffman and Bob Jorgenson from the EBU, and Scot Lengel from Cummins Northeast. They worked together to present the idea to the MBTA, to ensure all regulatory obligations were met with this new path to market, and to provide the optimal cost effective solution for the MBTA. John Malina - General Manager of the Worldwide Bus Business comments that, "This was an incredible example of how we can work together and complement each other in order to gain business for us both."
Marty Chiaramonte - Director of Aftermarket for Emission Solutions comments that, "We firmly believe that the Neo-fit path to market will open new doors for Cummins and Emission Solutions."
