Fleetguard User-Friendly Filter Earns Four Prestigious Industry Recognitions

6 MAR 07 -- Cummins Filtration, the leader in filtration, exhaust, coolant and chemical technology for engine-powered systems, received four recent honors for its innovative Fleetguard user-friendly filter. The spin-on fuel and lube filters use no paint, steel or adhesives and are designed to reduce service time and maintenance costs, while protecting the environment from harmful chemicals and disposal issues. The awards are from the Truck Writers of North America (TWNA) organization, plus inclusion in Heavy-Duty Trucking, Equipment World, and Construction Equipment magazines' best product lists.

Cummins Filtration received the coveted Technical Achievement Award for 2006 from TWNA for its unique design and user benefits. TWNA held a special awards ceremony at the annual Technology and Maintenance Council (TMC) meeting in Tampa, Florida in February. The Technical Achievement Award trophy was presented to Cummins Filtration's National Accounts Manager Mark Hassel and Product Design Leader Jeff Sharp by Paul Abelson (Road King & Land Line) and Tom Berg (Heavy Duty Trucking), both members of the Technical Award Committee, along with Eric Berard (L'Echo du Transport), John Baxter (Randall-Reilly Publishing), and James Menzies (Truck News).

Created in 1988, TWNA members are writers, editors, public relations specialists, marketing personnel and others involved in providing information related to the trucking industry. To be eligible for the Technical Achievement Award, a product or service has to clearly exhibit technical innovation, have a wide applicability in the trucking industry, offer significant benefits and be widely available.

The user-friendly filter was also named to three trade magazine "Best of" lists, including Heavy Duty Trucking's Nifty Fifty; Construction Equipment's Top 100 products; and Equipment World's Innovations 2007 cover story.

"This industry-wide recognition is testament to the unique design and functionality of the user-friendly filter," said John Clevenger, Director of Global Products and Alliances for Cummins Filtration. "It replaces conventional filters with its many benefits, like an easy-grip rib surface for no-hassle service; a flat, no-spill bottom for cleaner shop floor; a built-in, one-way socket for easy removal with 1/2" wrench; and a rugged, corrosion-free design to resist impact and temperature. Plus, it has fifty percent less weight than standard filters, which makes for easy inventory and service and cleaner, safer disposal."

Heavy Duty Trucking's Nifty Fifty list showcases editors' picks of the best new product introductions each year. The 50 winners are selected from hundreds of new product articles appearing in the magazine, in New Product News and at www.truckinginfo.com during the previous year. Products are judged on their usefulness to the truck operator in terms of innovation, serviceability and performance.

Construction Equipment's Top 100 is an industry list of editor's best product picks within a variety of categories, including ancillary products, drilling and trenching, heavy and light earth moving, lifting and material handling, trucking and hauling, and light equipment. Equipment World chose three unique products for their annual Innovations 2007 cover story in January, including the Fleetguard user-friendly filter.

"Awards are excellent feedback that we are providing products that benefit the customer and the industry,” Clevenger added. “That means we are making a real difference, and that makes us very proud."
